Tigers School of Taekwondo is a young and fast growing organisation dedicated to providing top class Taekwondo training.  The style of teaching Taekwondo training is mixing the traditional with modern techniques that has resulted in positive results.

Taekwondo  is a martial art and combat sport from Korea. Taekwondo is the national sport of South Korea and sparring, kyeorugi, was introduced as an Olympic sporting event. Tae means to smash with the feet; kwon means to strike or smash with the hand; and do means way or method. Hence, Taekwondo is translated as the way of the foot and hand. Taekwondo is written differently by different organisations (also, Tae Kwon Do, Taekwon-Do, or Tae Kwon-Do).

Taekwondo's popularity has resulted in the divergent evolution of the martial art. Taekwondo is a complete discipline martial art, that has combination of combat technique, self-defence, sport, exercise, entertainment, stretching and philosophy. Taekwondo has strong principles for a practitioner that must adhere to.

Taekwondo Tigers are strong in UK and have clubs in the North East ( Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Blaydon) and London regions, with a wide variety of instructors with wealth of experience. Within Newcastle and Gateshead regions there are different clubs with different instructors.

As part of sports taekwondo, Taekwondo Tigers have produced students who are competing at all levels in National and International Taekwondo Competitions representing Britain. Within Taekwondo Tigers there is a belief that everyone should continue to perfect their Taekwondo training methods in order to improve their own ability as well as teaching their students the best Traditional and Sport Taekwondo.

Taekwondo in general emphasises on kicks thrown from a mobile stance, using the leg's greater reach and power to strike an opponent from a larger distance rather than punching or other techniques. In sparring, turning, back, front, reverse turning and side kicks are often used, as well as punching; advanced kicking involve jumping, spinning, sliding.

Traditional Taekwondo training often involves a system of blocks, punches, knife hand strikes. For a more advanced student include take downs or sweeps, throws, and joint locks. As well as all these technique as a speciality a student would learn about pressure points and knife attacks defence.

Often courses are setup in the North East as well as London regions. This is aimed to help students to actively take part in particular area of  interests, such as knife attack, pressure point attacks, fighting techniques, kicking techniques, competition style fighting, refereeing, instructor course, etc.

This site's primary purpose is to provide up to date information of Taekwondo training sessions and meetings in the near future.
